The Asphalt Mix Analyzer (AMA) is Matest’s automatic asphalt analyzer for determining the soluble binder content of asphalt mixtures by solvent extraction, according to EN 12697-1 and ASTM D8159. It performs fully automatic bitumen extraction and recovery from asphalt mixtures and reclaimed asphalt (RA), maximizing lab productivity, reducing test time and protecting operators from solvent fumes.

The solvent-based system (compatible with tetrachloroethylene, trichloroethylene, or methylene chloride) separates aggregates, filler, and bitumen with unmatched precision. The recovered filler is collected via high-speed centrifugation, while the bitumen solution can be processed for further analysis.
Management is intuitive and flexible via a 7’’ touch-screen interface, where operators can customize test profiles, manage multiple cycles, and monitor safety alerts in real time. Optional connection to a rotary evaporator or integrated balance expands its capabilities, making AMA a complete extraction platform.
Binder content can be determined by solvent extraction or by the ignition method. With the AMA, aggregates, filler and bitumen are all recovered: the bitumen solution can be processed for further binder tests (DSR, BBR, DTT), which is not possible with the ignition method, where the binder is burned. For laboratories that only need the binder content quickly, Matest also offers asphalt ignition furnaces.
