The Matest Marshall stability testing machine is a mechanical load frame for determining the Marshall stability and flow of compacted asphalt specimens according to ASTM D6927, AASHTO T245, ASTM D5581 and NF P98-251-2. The platen speed of 50.8 mm/min is maintained even under full load, and the load is measured by a calibrated 30 kN proving ring with a stem brake that holds the maximum reading.
Load is measured with a 30 kN precision proving ring equipped with a stem brake that holds the maximum reading, supplied with a calibration certificate. Safety features include an automatic stop device at maximum capacity to prevent overload damage and limit switches to stop the platen at max and min excursions. The unit comes complete with the proving ring, stability mould flow meter, and dial gauge for full testing compliance.
What is the Marshall test?
In the Marshall test, a cylindrical asphalt specimen compacted with a Marshall compactor is conditioned in a water bath at 60 °C and loaded diametrically at 50.8 mm/min. The maximum load is the Marshall stability; the deformation at that point is the flow. Both values are used to design asphalt mixes and to check their quality.
