Soil, investigation and testing - Proctor test
This standard applies to earthworks, foundation engineering and road construction. The purpose of the Proctor test is to determine the dry density of a soil after compaction under specified test conditions as a function of the water content. The test serves to estimate the soil density achievable on construction sites and provides a reference value for assessing the soil density existing in the ground or achieved on construction sites. Its result also shows the optimum water content at which a soil can be compacted favourably to achieve certain dry densities. The body responsible for this standard is NA 005-05-03 AA "Baugrund; Laborversuche (SpA zu CEN/TC 341/WG 6)" at DIN.
