Shearmec is a fully automatic direct shear test apparatus for soils. This electromechanical shear testing machine performs direct and residual shear tests, including the consolidation phase, to determine the shear strength parameters of soils (cohesion and angle of internal friction) according to ASTM D3080, AASHTO T236, BS 1377-7, NF P94-071 and ISO 17892-10. Vertical and horizontal loads are applied by servo-controlled actuators, ensuring high reliability and repeatability.
The direct shear test measures the shear strength of a soil specimen placed in a split shear box. A constant normal load is applied, then one half of the box is displaced horizontally at a controlled speed until failure. Repeating the test at different normal loads gives the failure envelope of the soil. Shearmec calculates the shear speed automatically from the consolidation data (t50, t90 or t100) and can run residual shear cycles unattended, 24/7.
The user-friendly interface allows complete test setup while minimizing manual intervention, making Shearmec suitable for both standardized laboratory tests and advanced research applications.

Shearmec automatically calculates the appropriate shear velocity to be applied to the specimen by selecting the optimal consolidation parameter among t50, t90 and t100, improving efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
Thanks to its advanced firmware, Shearmec incorporates oedometer functions becoming extremely customizable during the consolidation phase.
