Test Standard Category

The one-dimensional consolidation test, or oedometric test, provides information on the compressibility of a sample to which unconfined expansion is prevented. The test can be performed in order to determine the law between the imposed pressure and the resulting deformation, or between vertical deformation and application time of a constant pressure. The cylindrical sample is inserted in a non-deformable metal ring and placed between two porous stones (to ensure water drainage and optimal quantities of moisture).

Two versions of Oedometers are available: a version with manual application of weights tipically used for educational purposes, and a version  with fully automatic loading steps application.
