Large Shearmec – Electromechanical Shear Testing Machine

Large Shearmec is an electromechanical shear testing machine designed by Matest for direct and residual shear tests on coarse- and medium-grain soil samples, including gravels. Its stainless steel shear box (300x300 mm) accommodates larger particle sizes, enabling accurate measurement of overall shear strength rather than just individual grains.

Two high-capacity electromechanical actuators (100 kN each) apply horizontal and vertical loads with travels of 150 mm and 75 mm, respectively. Load measurements are captured by two 100 kN electronic load cells, one for shear force and one for vertical pressure.

The innovative upper plate lifting system with self-locking joint ensures safe and precise specimen insertion, maintaining load axiality while simplifying access to the test area. The shear box can be easily removed or reinserted for safer handling.

The Cyber Plus Progress unit provides fully automatic control, from data acquisition to real-time graph display, and remote operation via SmartLab software for data processing and result export.

Large Shearmec can also be configured for geosynthetic material testing. The machine is supplied complete with shear box, load cells, displacement transducers, and containment plates.
