Used to reduce the vertical clearance between the compression platens, according to the height of the specimen to be tested, to prevent piston overtravel. The distance pieces are placed between the ram and the lower compression plate.
Steel distance pieces are placed under the compression machine's lower platen, to reduce the vertical daylight.
